Japanese car production increased in August

Tokyo - Car production in Japan increased in August 2012, compared with the year-ago figures, according to JAMA, the federation of Japanese automotive manufacturers. Motorcycle production declined
Automobile production in August 2012 was recorded as 735,999 units. Compared with the 704,088 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is an increase of 31,911 units or 4.5 percent, and the eleventh consecutive month reporting a year-on-year production increase.
Domestic sales in August 2012 stood at 370,777 vehicles, up 12.4 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year.
Automobile export in August 2012 was recorded as 344,049 units. Compared with the 363,800 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is a decrease of 19,751 units or 5.4 percent, and export decrease on the same month of the previous year after seven months of upturn.
Total value of automobiles exported for August 2012 was $11,663.711 million including $8,237.311 million for vehicles and $3,426.400 million for parts. This is a decrease of $17.165 million or 0.1 percent as compared with $11,680.876 million recorded for the same month of the previous year.
Motorcycle production in August 2012 was recorded as 45,574 units. Compared with the 48,256 units total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is a decrease of 2,682 units or 5.6 percent, and the fourth consecutive monthly year-on-year decline.
Domestic sales (factory shipment) in August 2012 stood at 30,814 units, a decrease of 8.1 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year.
