London - Iran is set to start the construction of a joint petrochemical project with Germany’s chemicals company Linde Group, according to an Iranian official.
In a statement to the Iranian Shana news agency, Morteza Azizi, managing director of Parsian Oil and Gas Development Co, said the company was about to start construction of Kian Petrochemical Plant, whose development has been agreed with Linde Group following the waiver of sanctions against the Islamic Republic last year.
The project will aim to producer polymers for the entire sector’s value chain, said Azizi.
"Besides licensing the project and providing engineering services, Linde has signalled readiness to invest in the project," the official said.
Once operational, the facility will annually supply 4 million tonne of various petrochemical products including ethylene, propylene, paraxylene, styrene, propylene oxide, and butadiene.
According to Shana, the plant's feedstock will include naphtha produced by SIRAF refinery park, light cuts from Noori Petrochemical Plant, and other carbon and heavy cuts from nearby South Pars refineries.
