Qatar Petroleum leads investigation of tire factors in accidents
ERJ staff report (BC)
Doha, Qatar – Qatar Petroleum (QP) has embarked on a collaborative project to investigate tire-related influences on road accidents and educate vehicle users on the importance of tire safety.
Partners for the project will be Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ), Williams Advanced Engineering and Shell. It will draw on current and new research data to determine how tire interaction with road surfaces contributes towards accidents, taking into account external contributors such as high temperatures, humidity and the frequent sandstorms experienced in Qatar.
Dr Nasser Saqer Al-Mohannadi, Manager of QP’s R&D department, said: “Loss of life due to a motor vehicle accident cannot be calculated in [terms of] monetary value. If we save only one life due to our efforts [in] this project, it will prove worth the research effort.”
