Sid Richardson still scouting sites for Mexico plant
London – Sid Richardson Carbon Co. is still evaluating potential locations and feedstock sources for its Mexico plant, a company official has revealed.
The company’s fourth carbon black production facility – and its first site outside the US – aims to start with a 50 kilotonne per annum unit, with the ability to expand to three units eventually.
Despite announcing its ambitions to build the plant about a year ago and originally aiming for a 2017 start-up date, Sid Richardson is still scouting locations for the plant.
“Once a location is selected we can approach the Mexican EPA (environment protection agency) about an operating permit and determine their operating requirements,” explained company’s vice-president for marketing Greg King in a written statement to ERJ.
According to King, the plant aims to use local feedstock and offer “world-class quality” at a “world-class cost structure”.
However, in terms of a completion deadline, King said there was no deadline.
“We are not in a hurry - to say the least,” he concluded.
