Washington – The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has granted a Continental Tire the Americas LLC petition for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance in a case of mismarked light truck tires.
The tires in question are approximately 1,800 General Tire Grabber LT265/75R16 112/109 Q LRC tires manufactured between 10 Dec 2010, and 9 Sept 2013, according to the notice NHTSA published in the 18 July Federal Register.
Because of a mould error, the number of tread plies indicated on the tires’ sidewalls does not match the tires’ actual construction, Conti told NHTSA.
The mislabeling is inconsequential as to the actual safety of the tires, and NHTSA has determined as much in many previous grants of petitions for decisions of inconsequential noncompliance, Conti said. All of the tires meet or exceed all performance requirements in the new tire standard, it said.
