Goodyear Dunlop UK office fire caused by tumble dryer

Birmingham, UK – West Midlands Fire Service have identified a tumble dryer as the cause of a major fire at the Goodyear Dunlop office in Birmingham, on 19 Feb.

“The fire service have taken the large appliance for further investigation and the cost front of the fire is being assessed right now,” said a Goodyear Dunlop spokeswoman, who said it was too early to decide what the damage was.

“But in terms of business continuity, there was no hit and our service carried on as usual,” she added.

Nearly 100 firefighters tackled the severe blaze at the warehouse and offices near The Fort in Birmingham, said the West Midland Fire Service in an announcement.

"At its peak, we had 15 fire engines and 2 aerial platforms in attendance," the statement added.

Speaking to ERJ, local sources in Birmingham said that the Goodyear Dunlop's was the front office of the warehouse which also accommodates a DHL centre.

“It looks like the fire damaged the DHL centre and that in turn disrupted Jaguar Land Rover’s production temporarily,” said the source.

JLR has not responded to ERJ inquiries.
