Italian machinery maker to expand, roll out new technology
Solbiate, Italy – Rubber and plastics machinery manufacturer Rodolfo Comerio is expanding having recently secured a series of new projects - including one to manufacture two of the biggest calenders in the world.
In response, the North Italy-based company is planning to build a second plant to meet new projects commissioned in early 2016, combined with those from last year.
Rodolfo Comerio will “build in the very next future a new production plant that will be added to its existing one,” the company said in a statement detailing its achievements since it was founded in 1878.
Alongside the expansion, the company said its R&D department is finalising a new calendering technology, intended for tire production and other rubber and PVC applications
“This new technology will be a complete revolution in the calendering sector, but so far everybody at Rodolfo Comerio keeps his lips sealed,” the company stated.
The company’s capabilities are further highlighted by a current project to build two of the largest calenders ever built in the world: one with four rolls and another one with five rolls.
The specified dimensions include: 870mm rolls diameter, 5,000mm rolls working width, 8m length of each roll including its journals, 30-tonne total weight of each roll.
These two calenders will be able to produce materials having less than 80μm thickness and are intended for involving the lamination of thermoplastics-based materials.
