Tire sales from supermarket car parks?
ERJ staff report (BC)
Dublin –The supermarket giant Tesco is reportedly working on a deal for tire fitting centres in its car parks, according to the Irish Independent.
Former Tesco boss Terry Leahy has a 25 percent stake in online tire seller Blackcircles.com, whose customers order online and then have their tires fitted by independent garages.
Now fitting centres in Tesco car parks have been floated by Blackcircles CEO Michael Welch. He is reported as telling the UK Times that an existing venture between the two companies, where tires were sold using Blackcircles' infrastructure through a Tesco website, had proven so successful that the two businesses were looking at ways to use Tesco's vast property estate.
The current venture offers extra Tesco clubcard vouchers for approved tires.
Tesco is rapidly trying to adjust its business model in response to declining sales in its non-food division, says the Independent.
