Smithers appoints president for two units
Akron, Ohio – The Smithers Group has appointed Nathaniel Leonard as president for Smithers Rapra and Smithers Pira.
He succeeds Jim Dowey, who is retiring after eight years with the company.
Leonard was previously vice president, North America for the two business groups. Before joining Smithers, he served in leadership roles at BF Goodrich, Progressive Insurance, Goodyear and Republic Steel.
James Popio, a 15-year Smithers veteran, will assume Leonard’s previous role. Popio previously served as vice president, Europe, and he brings previous experience with firms such as Bridgestone/Firestone and Goodyear.
Sam Sheppard Fidler, a 20-year member of the Pira team in the United Kingdom, will fill Popio’s previous role.
Smithers provides technology-based services through six business units focused on a defined market. It consists of Smithers Apex, Smithers Avanza, Smithers Pira, Smithers Quality Assessments, Smithers Rapra and Smithers Visicient.
