Bridgestone to build first Russian tire plant

Tokyo – In a joint venture with Mitsubishi, Bridgestone Corporation is to build a radial car tire plant in the Zavolzhye Industrial Zone in the Ulyanovsk region of Russia (about 900 km east-southeast of Moscow).
The new facility will be Bridgestone’s first plant in the Russia/CIS region.
Bridgestone will own 90% of the equity in the plant’s operating company, with Mitsubishi holding the remainder.
Investment in the project will total around ¥37.5 billion (RUB 12.5 billion, €304m). The plant is scheduled to begin operating in the first half of 2016. Production, mainly of winter tires for the Russia/CIS market, is scheduled to reach approximately 12,000 units a day by the second half of 2018.
