Styron axes European SB latex capacity
ERJ staff report (BC)
Horgen, Switzerland – Styrene butadiene (SB) latex producer Styron Europe GmbH has reduced its European SB latex manufacturing capacity by 70 000 tonnes.
The reduction was completed “over the past several months” across plants in Hamina, Finland; Rheinmunster, Germany; and Terneuzen, The Netherlands, according to a press release.
Styron attributes the production cut to overcapacity in the European marketplace, particularly in the paper coating sector.
As well as paper and paperboard, applications for Styron products include carpets, flooring and the “performance latex” market.
