Clermont-Ferrand, France – Michelin’s recently developed Energy Saver + tire has been used on the new Peugeot 208 1.6L BlueHDi where it reportedly established “the record for the lowest fuel consumption for a mass-produced vehicle.”
Making the announcement in a press release on 5 May, the French tire-maker said that the key features of the tire were energy efficiency and dynamic properties promoting safety and reducing mass.
Michelin Energy Saver + tires are fitted as standard on the Peugeot 208.
Michelin supplies low-resistance tires for Peugeot 208, 308, 508, 2008, 3008 and 5008 vehicles in the form of the Michelin Energy Saver + and Michelin Primacy.
According to Michelin, fitted with Energy Saver +, the new Peugeot 208 1.6L BlueHDi managed to cover a distance of 2,152 km with 43 litres of fuel on the PSA Peugeot Citroën test track at Belchamp (Doubs).
“The Peugeot car therefore managed a mean fuel consumption of 2l/100 km over this distance,” said Michelin attributing, in part, the success to the A-rated tire.
“In fact, one full tank out of five can be directly attributed to tires, so opting for a low resistance tire is critical,” the report added.
