Columbian Chemicals’ cancels force majeure provision for La. carbon black site

Marietta, Georgia –Columbian Chemicals Co. said operations at its Centerville, Louisiana, carbon black factory are back to normal with production at pre-Hurricane Katrina levels, allowing the firm to cancel the force majeure provision it had invoked Aug. 28.

The company said its carbon black plant received only minimal damage in the hurricane, but the closing of the Port of New Orleans and problems with rail transportation meant it could not guarantee carbon black shipments until it could restore normal production and shipping.
